It has weird issues of sexuality & Catholicism. We’re supposed to believe it’s set in Virginia, but the BCness of it is overwhelming.

West Virginia, actually. I had a really hard time suspending disbelief, because it was nothing like WV. It does not snow that much there, first of all. There are no big flat expanses of pasture, just hills and narrow valleys. It does not freeze long or hard enough to create a giant block of ice full of body parts. And I have never seen an indoor swimming pool there.

Iron Man, Iron Man, Iron Man!!

Also, I have seen about 1.4 episodes of The X Files, and didn't see the first movie, but "Scruffy! Evil! Speaking Russian!" Callum Keith Rennie is very enticing!

Man on Wire is my favorite movie this year so far. I *love* its evocation of 1970s paranoia/heist films like Three Days of the Condor, and I adore Petit's blithe craziness. I'm so glad you got to see it!

Maybe because YYZ is the airport code for Toronto's big airport? (And the title of a Rush album?) I don't know.

i miss you. & your infallible taste, too.

(this was a conversation at my house about a month ago. mike, renita & i had just finished watching mike's dvd of superbad, which mike & i had seen twice before & renita had never seen.
renita: wow, i can't believe how good that was. it looked so dumb when it came out... but then when jaci liked it so much, it made me curious to see it.
mike: that's exactly why miriam wanted to see it. )

Movie worth seeing solely for Chris Cooper: Breach

We have this on our Zip list for this reason alone! (I had totally forgotten that he won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Adaptation!)
